In the event of your death
Your pension plan provides your next of kin a coverage if you die.
It is important that you decide how you wish to secure your next of kin in the event of your death. For example, should your next of kin be able to...
- pay off your mortgage?
- pay off other debts?
- Will your children need financial support, for example to pay for their education?
Making these decisions is a key part of providing your family with maximum financial security if you were to die.
Coverage before your retirement
In your pension plan you have the two following coverages before retirement:
- Life insurance (sum) – The lump sum is equivalent to your yearly pay but will have a minimum of DKK 720,000 kr. You can choose to change your pension plan so that the sum is up to 800 % of your yearly pay.
- Security on savings – The value of your Life-long retirement pension will be paid to your next of kin if you die before retirement. You can choose not to have the security which means your savings will be bigger.
- The savings on your instalment pension will be paid to your next of kin if you die.
You can choose more coverage for your spouse or children by obtaining extra pensions for them in the event of your death.
Coverage after retirement
If you wish you can also choose to have coverage for the event of death after your retirement. You can secure your Life-long retirement pension or obtain an extra pension for your spouse in the event of your death.
Benefits paid on death
Benefits will be paid to your "next of kin", unless you have made other arrangements.
Sampension receives notification of deaths directly from the Danish National Register. When we receive the information, we will write to the surviving family, informing them about the pension plan benefits they are entitled to. For this reason, it is also important that we have information about any of your beneficiaries living abroad.
We will write directly to persons registered as beneficiaries of your pension to explain to them about possible benefits. You can always ask us about your options in respect of cover on death.
